A comment from our Dato' Log. Dr. Chang Kah Loon 拿督曾家麟博士, PhD (USM), FCILT, FLogM, in relation to SST percentage and coverage.
The government is introducing additional SST percentages and expanding SST coverage. Our government may have its reasons for the implementation. However, if possible, we would appreciate it if our government could kindly enlighten us on the rationale behind the implementation. What are the intended uses, strategies, development areas, needs, and so on for the additional funds from SST?
The relevant authorities or departments may consider implementing cost-saving or cost-cutting plans and strategies instead of relying on aggressive methods to collect additional SST. As you may be aware, multinational corporations (MNCs) commonly adopt this practice whenever they seek additional financial resources for expansion or development.
According to the relevant logistics index or barometer, the logistics sector may be experiencing growth, indicating "good" performance in terms of demand, capacity, and volume; however, the government also plans to increase port tariffs (charges). Therefore, consumers may eventually have to share the additional costs resulting from logistics-related increases or other possible revisions.
Honestly, many of us, including me, of course, are unable to cope with so many increases in cost at the same time. This change will significantly burden our daily routines. Don't we notice? Can we implement it gradually instead of all at once, at the same time?
