A comment from our Dato' Log. Dr.
Chang Kah Loon (拿督曾家麟博士), PhD (USM), FCILT, FLogM, in relation to port tariffs (charges):
Logistics, particularly maritime logistics, or simply shipping, enables world trade by facilitating substantial exports and imports that occur every second. In short, almost every item or product, including raw materials, depends on logistics and shipping services; hence, the intended 30% increase in port tariffs (charges) in Malaysia may impact everyone, including consumers. When combined with the SST and numerous other increases, the resulting chain reaction and financial burden could be significant.
However, Dato’ Dr. Chang sincerely hopes that if the increase in port tariffs (charges) is unavoidable, for good reasons, then the authorities, agencies, and departments concerned are truly requested to ensure improvements in the related infrastructure, superstructure, performance, and productivity to serve the trade for mutual benefit.
