The comment from our Chief Executive of AK Academy and Director of AK Shipping, Dato' Log. Ts. Dr. Chang Kah Loon 拿督曾家麟博士, PhD (USM), FCILT, FLogM, via Sin Chew Daily, 21 November 2025:

After the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) began strict enforcement, some lorry operators went on strike or intend to perform a work strike, with the intention of temporarily stopping cargo transport operations as a way to put pressure on the MOT.

Regarding the related news, the President of The Society of Logisticians Malaysia (LogM), who's also the Chairman of CILT (Penang Section), Dato’ Log. Ts. Dr. Chang Kah Loon 拿督曾家麟博士, PhD (USM), FCILT, FLogM, is also aware of the situation. We, LogM, understand that certain operators within the lorry transportation sector performed such unhealthy exercise. In any case, we believe that issues such as “overloading” and “speeding” do exist among some operators, although we do not have detailed information on the specifics.

As a professional body for logisticians, we have consistently advocated for the industry to place strong emphasis on compliance and safety. Whether in maritime, air, or land transportation, compliance and safety are the most fundamental, core, and non-negotiable principles.

In particular, in the maritime and air transport sectors, “overloading” is strictly prohibited. Once cargo exceeds the permitted limits, it cannot be loaded onto vessels or aircraft, as it would pose significant safety risks and may even disrupt the entire logistics and supply chain system.

As for land transportation, it also involves legal compliance, operational standards, and road safety, because any accident can lead to serious consequences, including threats to human life. Therefore, every aspect of road transport operations must be carried out in strict adherence to established standards.

The Road Transport Act and other relevant regulations have been in effect for many years and are not new. We sincerely hope that industry players will properly understand and comply with these existing laws, as this is essential for ensuring a stable, regulated, and professional development of the logistics and transportation sector.
